Out Of Office was born from a lifelong love affair with the Texas coast.
As a seventh-generation Texan, Deborah grew up with a deep appreciation for the places, traditions, and sense of adventure that make Texas special. But nowhere captured her heart quite like the coast. Every summer, she counted down the days until she could get back to Port Aransas, where life revolved around sun-soaked beach days, salt air, and endless freedom. She spent her summers jumping waves, making friendship bracelets, eating snow cones, and developing crushes on every lifeguard in sight. She waited all year for family trips to Pat Magee's, long afternoons by the water, and the carefree feeling that only comes from being by the ocean.
That love of the coast stayed with her as she followed a more traditional path. Deborah earned a degree in Economics from The University of Texas and built a career spanning startups, finance, and growing businesses across Houston, Austin, Silicon Valley and New York City. She loved helping build companies, but she never let go of her dream of becoming an entrepreneur herself.
Then a spinal cord injury changed her perspective. The experience was a powerful reminder that life is precious, time is limited, and some dreams aren't meant to wait for the "perfect" moment. Determined to make the most of every chapter, she packed up her car and headed west, spending months exploring national parks, driving across the country, and soaking up time in Mexico. The journey gave her space to reflect on what mattered most and what she wanted to create.
The answer always seemed to lead back to the ocean.
Out Of Office is the result of that realization: a passion project inspired by a lifetime of Texas coastal memories, a love for ocean life, and the belief that it's never too late to take a chance on yourself. Today, Deborah still spends as much time as possible at her family's beach house, finding inspiration in the waves, the sunsets, listening to music, hanging with her Golden Retriever and the simple joy of being near the water.
Out Of Office is for anyone who finds themselves daydreaming about their next beach trip, chasing sunsets, collecting seashells, or wishing they could spend a little more time with their toes in the sand. It's a celebration of slowing down, embracing adventure, and making room for the things that matter most.
